Aamir Khan’s production ‘Peepli [Live] fails to get nomination for the Oscars Awards under the Best Foreign Language Film. The film has been left out of the nine films selected by the Academy. The 83rd Academy Awards will be held on February 27, 2011(Sunday), at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
After leaving behind 27 films including Raajneeti and Udaan, Peepli Live was selected for the Oscars as the one Indian film to represent India in the international entertainment world. Unfortunately, it lost out at the final nine nominations for the award.
Directed by journalist-turned-director Anusha Rizvi, the satirical comedy become one of 2010′s top five grossers. Earlier, in 2001, Aamir had made it to the nominations of Oscars with his historic film Lagaan. His film Taare Zameen Par in the year 2007 had also lost the race at the Oscars. Till now, Indian Films have not won any Oscar.

The final five nominees would be announced on 25 January in next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards by specially invited committees in New York and Los Angeles. This year, 65 countries, including first-time entrants Ethiopia and Greenland, had submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category.
The nine films, listed in alphabetical order by country, selected for second stage are:
Algeria, “Hors la Loi” (“Outside the Law”), Rachid Bouchareb, director;
Canada, “Incendies,” Denis Villeneuve, director;
Denmark, “In a Better World,” Susanne Bier, director;
Greece, “Dogtooth,” Yorgos Lanthimos, director;
Japan, “Confessions,” Tetsuya Nakashima, director;
Mexico, “Biutiful,” Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, director;
South Africa, “Life, above All,” Oliver Schmitz, director;
Spain, “Tambien la Lluvia” (“Even the Rain”), Iciar Bollain, director;
Sweden, “Simple Simon,” Andreas Ohman, director.
